Shepard Walton King Celebrates 20th Anniversary

In 1995, Bob Shepard, Bob Walton and Neal King came together to create an insurance company forged with the building blocks of excellence and determination. On March 1, 2015, Shepard Walton King will celebrate 20 years as South Texas’ leading insurance group.

SWK began to take shape when King, managing director of Alexander and Alexander (a national insurance broker), approached Shepard and Walton, partners of an independent insurance group in Harlingen, about a possible merger. The idea was an immediate hit.

“We thought it was a great opportunity to have an organization that was entirely locally owned and operated,” said Shepard. “We owe something to the community we do business in and have therefore made it a priority to continuously give back.”

The community has always been given great importance at SWK, and the company’s involvement is energetic through contributions to the Chamber of Commerce, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the South Texas Museum.

Since its foundation, SWK shaped its ranks with quality people that made it possible to deliver great insurance services for each client. Now, the company’s creed of excellence remains and the changes that only 20 years can bring continue to prioritize customer satisfaction.

In two decades, the group has diversified, doubled in size and opened an associate office in Austin. While new partners have taken the reigns of the business, they continue to do so with the same level of veracity and obligation instilled by the original founders.

When the company’s controlling interest was sold, it was done with full confidence that the new partners would maintain and develop the company with the long-standing SWK ideals and principles.

These 20 years are a testament to SWK’s determination and perseverance. Whether it’s through offering the most complete and professional insurance services or the incessant commitment to the community, we look forward to the growth of many more years to come.
