For Those Lacking Auto Insurance, Here Are 4 Reasons to Get Covered Today!
According to the Insurance Research Council, nearly one in eight American drivers lack auto insurance, and in Texas, 14% of drivers have no coverage. These numbers may seem low, but if you were to find yourself in an auto accident with a driver lacking coverage, your own insurance may have to cover repairs. And if you lack coverage, you may end up dealing with a lot of hassles in the coming weeks. Here are four reasons why you should get covered today!
It’s Required by Law
Texas requires that all drivers have at least the minimum amount of coverage, which is liability insurance. There are also a few instances where you’ll be required to provide proof of coverage:
- If you’re in an auto accident.
- Are registering or renewing your registration.
- Are having your vehicle inspected.
Also know that lacking insurance can result in a fine of up to $350.
You May Need Insurance to Finance
If you plan on purchasing a vehicle and getting a loan through a bank or credit union, almost all financial lenders require insurance coverage. This guideline is standard for almost all financial institutions regardless if the vehicle is new or used.
Insurance Can Pay for Damages
If you’re in an accident where there’s an injury or damages to the other person’s vehicle, then this is where liability insurance comes in. Liability comes with the “30/60/25 clause.”
This means that it can pay:
- Up to $30,000 for each person injured in an accident.
- Up to $60,000 for each accident you are involved in.
- Up to $25,000 for any property damages caused in an accident.
It Covers Certain Types of Damages
Besides covering damages to your vehicle in an accident, your insurance can also cover other things such as:
- Damages caused by natural causes
Note that this is NOT included in liability coverage and should be consulted with your insurance agent.
