Planning a Company Event? If So, Protect Your Business with an Insurance Plan!
A year in any company is full of all sorts of celebrations. There are the big holiday events, maybe a New Year’s bash, definitely a Fourth of July celebration, and so many more! We’re talking promotions, birthdays, retirements, etc. Now, while these events are all in good fun, it’s your responsibility as a business owner to safeguard yourself and your company. Don’t know where to start? Shepard Walton King is here to help.
Encourage Correctness and Good Behavior
Sure, it’s a celebration, but your employees are still expected to be responsible. If they need a little reminder, make sure to let them know with a written statement on their invitation. Include information regarding alcohol consumption, conduct, and their means of getting home. Remember, the people at the top need to lead by example, so don’t be afraid to let everyone know how things will be planned. Keep in mind, employers may sometimes be named as defendants if an employee drives home drunk and causes themselves, or others, some injuries.
We understand that it may be easier (and perhaps more affordable) to have your celebration at your place of business. However, we encourage you to do otherwise. If an accident was to occur, the location where your celebration happens may be held accountable. Avoid any of these problems by booking a restaurant or lounge away from your company premises.
What About the Alcohol?
This may go without saying, but no employee should drive away from your event in an intoxicated state. We suggest not paying for their beverages. If you decide to provide alcohol, establish a system that allows you to keep your employees in check. One way to do so is by hiring an experienced bartender who can stop serving alcohol to employees who may have had enough.
If drinks will be ingested, it’s advisable that you ensure food is, too. This will help counter the effects of the alcohol. Additionally, make sure employees who will be drinking have:
- Someone pick them up
- Access to a taxi
- Access to a ride-sharing app like Uber or Lyft
