Tips to Protect Your Business During Company Parties
The holiday season is in full swing and it’s time for your employees to celebrate a year full of success. There’s nothing wrong with throwing a company party for everyone to wind down and bond, but there are some measures you should consider to avoid getting your business into trouble. The last thing any company owner wants is to end the year with a workplace lawsuit, so follow Shepard Walton King’s tips to protect your business.
Promote Good Conduct
It’s important for your employees to be responsible. To remind them of this fact, write out a statement regarding your party’s invitation to address alcohol consumption and their responsibility when heading home. Additionally, let your management know that they are expected to lead by example.
One of the most important things to do in protecting your business is to hold your party at a different location. If an accident happens, the party’s location may be held accountable. However, employers can sometimes be named as defendants if an intoxicated employee leaves the premises and injures him/herself or someone else.
Safety is a priority and no employee should leave home in an intoxicated state. Workers will drink less if they have to pay for alcohol, so avoid providing them with free beverages. If you absolutely must provide alcohol, use a drink voucher system that will keep your employees in check. Another helpful thing you can do is hire a bartender who is trained at spotting signs of intoxication.
Make sure your party has plenty of food and non-alcoholic drinks to help counter the effects of alcohol. Additionally, encourage alternative transportation for employees, like taxis or city buses, along with the use of a designated driver system.
