Safety Tips for Your Thanksgiving Road Trip
Thanksgiving Day is almost here and many of us will take to the roads to spend time with our loved ones. Roadways around the nation will be filled with traffic, meaning you and your family should take necessary steps to reach your destination as safely as possible. The last thing you want is for an accident or injury to occur, so follow our advice and get ready to enjoy the holiday.
Planning ahead is one of the most important things to do when preparing for a trip. Plus, it can be quite fun. Make sure the main components of your vehicle (tires, brakes, oil, etc.) have been thoroughly checked and readied for your journey. Pack winter safety supplies (ice scraper, tow rope, blankets, flashlights, first aid kit, etc.) in your car just to play it safe. Additionally, make sure your route is properly mapped out and keep in mind that it may be subject to change due to weather. If this is a possibility, map out an alternate route.
Your legs and back can grow extremely tired during lengthy road trips, so do your body a favor and stop to take short breaks often to allow your blood to flow and re-energize you. Your body requires extra fluids and food during the cold weather, so make sure you and your family drink and eat high-energy food and beverages throughout the journey. To ensure your little ones remain safe, be sure to keep them close to you at all times when stopping for breaks.
In Case of Emergency
Cars can break down when you least expect and accidents can happen out of the blue. To ensure your family’s safety, keep your phones charged at all times. Also, be sure and travel on main roads with moderate traffic. This way, it’ll be easier to seek help if mobile communication is not available.
