Why Your Property Should Be Covered During Spring Break
The weather is finally warming up. Time to get the coolers out and throw some meat on the grill. It’s Spring Break and you’re going to have a few guests over. You’ll want to have a good time but may not be sure if your insurance policy will cover you and all of your friends. Here is a brief overview of property coverage should any unfortunate event occur during your Spring Break celebration.
What is Covered?
A home insurance policy is typically composed of four parts:
- Personal belongings
- Liability protection
- Temporary living expenses
A house insurance policy usually covers anything that’s included or related to your home, which can include things like fencing or sheds. These are all protected in cases of fire, theft or vandalism. So, for example, if you’re having a Spring Break cookout and a fire spreads, resulting in part of the house being damaged, you may have coverage for your losses. Or, if you decide to vacation elsewhere and your home is robbed, your insurance coverage can help out in losses.
Coverage for personal belongings includes clothing, sports equipment and other personal items destroyed by fire, theft, vandalism or any other insurable event. Temporary living expenses will take effect when the home is rendered uninhabitable because of a covered event, such as severe weather damage or a flood. Remember, just because it’s spring doesn’t mean the weather will always be sunny.
If the unfortunate happens and the home is damaged, you may then be eligible for expenses including hotel stays, transportation rentals and food costs. And the most important part of insurance coverage for this time of year is liability protection. In the unlikely event a person is injured while at your residence, liability protection can provide the coverage you need.
