Texas Winters Are the Perfect Time to Check for Roof Leaks

Texas summers are nothing short of scorching, and hurricane season keeps us on our toes and on the lookout for serious weather. That leaves late fall and winter as the best and safest times to check for roof leaks. Now, even though it feels like winters in our state end earlier than elsewhere, it’s still important to keep your roof’s condition in mind. So, grab a ladder and climb your roof to find those leaks before they get worse!

If the Problem is Serious, Then Act Quickly

The signs of a leak include patches of shingles missing, rotting wood, or even sagging. If you spot any of these, you’ll need repairs as soon as possible. The last thing you’ll want is for the integrity of your entire house to fail, which can be extremely dangerous and expensive.

While the water stains may not be evident, it’s important that you check your closets, pantry, laundry room, and garage. Identifying these problems will give you a direct line of where the leak is.

The More-Involved Method

Climb into the attic to find signs of a leak. Perhaps a nail slightly damaged the wood, flashing was improperly installed, or a soil pipe is loose. Have a helper safely climb onto the roof to spray some water on the potential leaky spot while you check inside the attic. If the water runs, you’ve got yourself a leak.
