Hurricane Season Insurance

Wind and Hail and Floods, Oh My! Insuring Your Home Against the Elements

There’s no place like home, which means you as a Texas homeowner should do everything you can to protect it. We’ve decided to revisit some insurance basics for you, especially considering winter is winding its way down, and spring will soon be upon us.

Flood Insurance

Did you know that flooding is the number one natural disaster in the United States? It’s true! So, do you have flood insurance in place to protect your home and belongings against this very real threat?

Renters and homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage caused by floods. The government has created the National Flood Insurance Program that provides for reimbursement for losses caused by storm surges, heavy rainfall and even burst water mains.

If you don’t have a specific building or contents flood policy in place yet, we suggest you call our agency soon, as your policy won’t kick in until 30 days after you purchase it.

Hurricane Insurance

Hurricane insurance is actually called windstorm insurance, and it provides wind and hail coverage to homeowners who live in the first tier counties along the Texas Gulf Coast. With windstorm insurance, your home and personal belongings are covered. All you have to do is choose the right amount of coverage with the right deductible, and you’re set!

While hurricane season doesn’t start until June, it doesn’t hurt to consider purchasing this coverage when you call to add a flood policy. It’s important to note that you cannot purchase hurricane insurance protection once a hurricane has been named.
